Presentation of the “Gentility” sculptural composition by sculptor Venia Dimitrakopoulou, at Noval Property’s “Butterfly” office building
Noval Property held an event with a strong cultural element at the “Butterfly” office building in Chalandri. Attended by representatives from the artistic, journalistic and business world, the Company presented the sculptural composition named “Gentility” by the internationally acclaimed sculptor Venia Dimitrakopoulou which will now be on permanent exhibit in the building’s outdoor areas.
Faithful to its corporate philosophy, Noval Property creates spaces based on sustainable development and improving people’s quality of life. Beginning with the “Gentility” sculptural composition, the Company will continue to incorporate other contemporary works of art into its buildings, works that will be accessible not only to the buildings’ users, but also to visitors and city residents, resulting ultimately in projects that will inn effect be viewed as landmarks, providing a reference point in their local areas.
At the event, Panagiotis Kapetanakos, CEO of Noval Property, spoke about the Company’s broader philosophy and vision, stating: “For Noval Property, buildings are not just about a city’s aesthetics built exclusively for their users. For us, buildings have a bigger and an equally important role. We believe that they define our relationship with the urban environment which is why we create modern landmarks that focus on everyone in the local area, which asides from the buildings’ users also includes visitors and residents.”
Art historian and curator Elizabeth Plessa also spoke about the importance of public sculptures, analyzing, in particular, the relationship between the “Gentility” sculptural works and the “Butterfly” building, drawing attention to the harmonious composition of the monolithic sculptures’ sensibility with the strict geometry of the building, the relationship between marble and metal, as well as how light and shadows plays a role on the works’ overall impact depending on the time of day.
She also referred to the two-way relationship between the sculptural compositions and their viewers, reflected in the metal parts of the sculptures and their relationship with the sky and surrounding greenery, and how placing “Gentility” outdoors has actually created a small “Zen garden”.
For her part, the artist, Venia Dimitrakopoulou, analyzed the concept of site-specific works, the methods she follows in her artistic practice, the many different materials she uses depending on each specific site, and the role that each site and the feeling that it emits ultimately shapes the final form of her sculptures.
Venia Dimitrakopoulou has presented her artistic works in solo and group exhibitions both in Greece and internationally, while many of her works can be found in public spaces as well as in private collections around the world. She is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece and the Greek Sculptors’ Association, and in 2017 was honored by the President of Italy Sergio Mattarella with the Order of the Star of Italy.
